Objective
Event promotion
Filling an event, before, during and after it.
Event promotion fills an event with the right people and makes the most of it before, during and after. An integrated plan invites through owned channels, builds anticipation on social media and through creators and partners, guides attendees with timely reminders, and follows up afterwards so that the event leads to something.
What matters when choosing
- A clear reason to attend, stated in one line of the invitation: who will be there, and what people will learn or gain.
- A sequence of invitations and reminders by email and messaging, consented to and easy to leave.
- Registration and attendance data that flows into the customer record, ready for follow-up.
- Speakers, partners and community members who will invite their own networks.
- Measures beyond the room: registrations and attendance to steer, then what the event led to, such as meetings, sales or renewals.
Questions to ask vendors and agencies
- Who exactly do we want in the room, and how will we reach them?
- What happens with the people who registered but did not come?
- What follow-up is planned in the days after the event, and who owns it?
Common mistakes
- Treating attendance as the result, when it is only an output.
- Promoting too late, or all at once, with no reminders as the date approaches.
- Letting the conversation stop when the doors close.
